Like many of his followers, Eric is an avid football fan and has been closely following World Cup matches. He was on stage for the majority of the England vs. Columbia matchup. WIth the game tied 1-all after extra time, the band finished the encore – ‘High TIme We Went’ – just as the penalty shoot-out started. Eric went straight to the telly in the venue’s artist lounge to witness England banish their penalty demons and win the shoot-out. Luckily for Eric, band, crew and his football-loving fans, the Three Lions’ quarterfinal match against Sweden takes place Saturday afternoon, the day before EC’s concert in London’s Hyde Park.

Review by Andrea M. / Como, Italy
i was there with my son who is thirteen years old. Although my son is a huge Jimi Hendrix fan (up to now), he was literally captured by the music, by the man, by the band (nobody to be forgotten as good as they are). The only thing i can say is that Eric (and the band) are still great, just like I can’t find the words how to say that.
Only one thought: coming to Hamburg with my son, i bet with him on the plane whether or not they would play ‘White Room’. I’ve lost the bet, but it was a moving and happy moment when I heard the song and I saw the smile of my son……
I don’t have any argument to try to change Eric Clapton decision, but if he’s happy when he plays, I can only ask him to share his happiness with us. Thank you and the band.

EC started at 9pm straight but short though very Knocking. The next two followed with the same procedure of delicate intro, solos by Chris and Paul and a great but short final EC solo. Sherif and WR got more loose and the latter had throughout fine lead fret support by Doyle.
The acoustic part started Drifting into Eric’s subtle fingerpicking, smooth but really aggressive at places. More of this with great (in Tears very subtle) support followed in the last acoustics.
Then it Got Better – with a roaring EC for a Great While – THE song and cowork! Wonderful Tonight! (as all songs with before unheard intro and esp. final solo) Also outstanding EC’s soloing and answering the Queen of Spade verses with his guitar.
Cocain was another tour de force and the finale after sharp 90min. The encore was lead by Paul and Eric introducing his great co-soloers.
Nearly the same setlist for years but EC proved again his feeling and differing fretwork and great voice too. For me it might be nenertheless The Clexit after my first EC concert here in Hamburg in Feb.1990!
Thank you Eric!!
