Over the years, there have been two venues known as Charlotte Coliseum. The first – colloquially called “the Old Coliseum” – opened in 1955 and is located at 2700 East Independence Boulevard and is still in operation. The second – nicknamed “The Hive” – opened on August 11, 1988 at 100 Paul Buck Boulevard. Larger in size of the first, it closed in 2005 and was demolished in 2007.

The first Charlotte Coliseum located on Independence Boulevard has operated under the following names:
Charlotte Coliseum (1955–1988)
[Closed 1988-1993]
Independence Arena (1993–2001)
Cricket Arena (2001–2008)
Bojangles Arena (2008–)

Eric’s concerts in 1975, 1978*, 1981 (cancelled), 1982: Charlotte Coliseum on East Independence Boulevard
Eric’s concerts in 1990, 1992, 1995, 1998, 2001: Charlotte Coliseum on Paul Buck Boulevard

* Some sources have Eric’s March 1978 gig happening at the “Memorial Coliseum.” Research did not unearth a venue with that name in Charlotte. The closest is the American Legion Memorial Stadium, an outdoor venue used mostly for sports.  A Where’s Eric! Subscriber was able to confirm that the concert did in fact take place at the Charlotte Coliseum as his brother went to the gig.
