Another stellar night with MONSTER guitar from EC. Again, Voodoo Chile is THE song of the night. Close following are The Shape I’m in, Presence of the Lord, Glad, Tough Luck Blues with a guitar intro remeniscent of Little Queen of Spades, Going Down, Georgia and Driftin’. EC was in particular good form tonight, his daughters in attendence. He was talkative and he has a sense of humor! Crowd favorites were Forever Man, Georgia, Driftin’, Layla and Can’t find my way home. Voodoo Chile saw loud and strong solos by EC and SW. This song is unprecededented in it’s execution and out of this world.

Set list same as last night. Considered the sound mix to be better tonight. Great soloing from Eric on Voodoo Chile, and Split Decision. Highlight for me was Pearly Queen, the band seemed to kick into a great groove mid-song, Eric and Steve really had some telepathy on the go on this one tonight. Driftin’ works well with Willie and the 2 Steve’s on board, with Steve playing some great hammond on this one.

Eric played like a man on fire tonight, not for a along time have I seen him play with so much intensity. He seems to be at total ease with Steve Winwood, they gel very well with each other. I don’t know much about guitars or any of the technical jargon, all I know is that he mostly used his pale blue strat and the black one. The fact that I was 8 rows from the front I did notice the show was being filmed, I hasten to add that I still didn’t have a very good view being on the end of the row and on the flat. Wembley is certainly not my favourite venue, the acoustics are not good if your down in front of the arena and I have been to over 20 of Eric’s concerts, so please if you read this Eric lots of us would like to see you back at the Royal Albert Hall next time. My favourites of the night had to be a stunning version of Voodo Chile and nice to hear a return of Presence of The Lord. I almost didn’t go to this concert because I couldn’t get decent seats at reasonable prices, but had a change of heart at the last minute, and very glad that I did. If you get a chance to go, this one is well worth the trip.

Two old friends together playing some great music and clearly having fun. And we also had lots of fun too. Friday night and Clapton and Winwood take the stage together for the second of two nights in London. Its only a few months since I was sitting in the O2 seeing Clapton with Jeff Beck, and tonight I’m back again in the capital seeing another great guitar pairing. Tonight was very different to the Clapton / Beck show. For one thing Clapton and Winwood have a recording history together in terms of the Blind Faith album, much of which was played on Friday night. Also the two legends took the stage togther throughout (unlike the Clapton / Beck show where the two guitarists did their own sets and then came together at the end of the show). Anyway enough of comparisons; its not fair to make them; as I say; these shows were very different.

Last night was a real musical treat. These guys are playing better than ever. I‘m not sure I’ve ever see Clapton play better or seem more comfortable and relaxed on stage. And Steve Winwood’s signing was spot on. The last time I saw Steve at the Sage Gateshead I thought his voice was showing a little strain. Not last night. His vocals on Georgia were stunning, as was his guitar playing; some great swapping of licks between the two. For me highlights were Pearly Queen (always loved the song), Georgia, Can’t find my way home, and Voodoo Chile. Clapton’s playing on Voodoo Chile was totally on the ball and the song brought the show to a great climax. Everyone was on their feet at the end and the band came back for an encore of Dear Mr Fantasy which is another personal favourite of mine. You don’t get much better concerts than this, certainly not in terms of muscianship. I would have liked to heard them do No Face No Name No Number which is on the live CD, but I guess you can’t always get everything you want.

Last Friday, 21 May, I went with two friends to see one of the best concerts I’ve enjoyed in my life. We travel just to see the concert from Spain, it was not the first time and other times we went to the Albert Hall, but this was special. Eric played guitar relaxed chemistry between the two geniuses was special the sound of his guitars flowed over us and the band was perfect, Steve’s voice is better than ever and hammond reached as high as the Wembley Arena. My favorite moments were the "Voodoo Chile" with Hammond and the strato on fire, and "Can’t find my way home" in a version for a two acoustic guitars touching the sky. I hope that people who go to other concerts of the tour will pass it as well as us, and for the next tour we hope to remember their fans in Spain, if not so, we return to our beloved London where we have always been welcome.

We attended out third Clapton concert, following Dublin last year and the O2 with Jeff Beck this year this was the one. I read The Telegraph review on Saturday morning and though the jaded journo must have been to a different concert, or listened from the bar. Perhaps I could agree that the sound guys could have done a better job with getting the vocals above the instrument, but his comments were lost on me…geriatrics? Look at the audience, the young guys in front of us were continually on their feet, whilst we older people rocked, swayed and smiled throughout. When I saw the other reviews from fans and knew that those people had been at the same concert as us and had experienced the same thing.

When Eric told the audience about his three hour trip to get there we sympathised, when he said he just wanted to get there to play with this band we had already seen that was true, and he made us feel he wanted us to be there to hear it … a connection …and that is clearly what Eric and Steve Winwood have … fantastic. Voodoo Chile was brilliant, as was the acoustic set, and I for one left with a new appreciation of Winwood, not only for his own musical skills, but his role in motivating the whole band to achieve a sensational performance …what next?
