Not only does Eric still have it, but he’s still getting better.  Over 2 1/2 hours of incredible music rocked OKC last night.  The crowd gave the band a warm welcome, settled down for Hello Old Friend, and exploded again for Tell the Truth.  The vibe carried over during an extended version of Gotta Get Over It with amazing rhythm and riffs.  I kept shaking my head thinking “this is new material”.  After that, both the band and the crowd were off on a great journey. Was relieved to hear the “soft”  Layla and pleasantly surprised when it turned into a unique extended version with traded solos.  As usual, Eric brought along quality band members who each highlighted their skills during the show with very nice solos.  The drummer was heads above the rest and worth watching.  He went to another level during Sunshine of Your Love  and had a special duet working with Eric.  I’ve seen Bonham and Moon and he was there.  He did Ginger proud. The whole show kept rocking to the end.  It was loud.  It was fantastic.

Wednesday night was indeed wonderful. Eric was in great form and so was the band. Badge (Dallas) was replaced by Goin’ Down Slow, otherwise the set list was the same. Although the overall concert was excellent the Robert Johnson section was unbelieveable. It was indeed a treat to hear Eric perform Stones in My Passway. I had absolutely no complaints but would have preferred the “real” Layla over the acoustic.  Eric opening with the acoustic while standing was a suprise, but not disappointing by any means. This brings up the point that Eric may be one of the most underappreciated acoustic players around. His artistry during the sit down session was simply amazing. As a side note I thought it interesting that he played a blue colored Martin during the sit down session. I also noticed that all of Eric’s guitars were plugged in and not wireless. Doyle was fantastic with a lot of stage communiction between he and Eric. Steve Jordan is such a joy to watch as he plays. Willie and Chris were their usual amazing selves.

No Tempted, no Sheriff or Badge…but Oklahoma saw the debut of two songs in the tour: Goin’ Down Slow and the surprising Singin’ The Blues!!! Does not look like a bad deal at all

Some thoughts on OKC: Great show! Awesome band! Fantastic extended jams. I’m pretty sure song #8 is a cover of “Singing the Blues” by rapper/producer Tricky. Had to do a little digging to find that out, LOL. Great version, starts with piano, the back up vocalist shine and the band as a whole tears it up. Knocked me out, had to find out more! Clapton definitely showcases his band members and doesn’t hog the spotlight. Two great songs off of  the Pilgrim album, “My Father’s Eyes” and “Going Down Slow” with awesome wah pedal usage on the latter…wow.

I was at the OKC show. It was my fourth time to see EC. OKC in 04, 07, and 13, and then I was also at the 10 show in Tulsa. As usual, the best sound quality, and the tightest band of anybody. Eric was great. I thought he let Doyle have a little more than in 04 and 07, but then again, the guy is 68 in 8 days, so that’s to be expected. The most interesting part of the show to myself and the guy with me, was towards the end of the show (pre-encore). Eric, proving that he actually human, missed a lick on his Strat. Not very noticeable, but it was obvious he did grimace when he did. Shortly thereafter, he motioned to the tech, who then came around behind the stage and met Eric back at his amp, where they spoke for a few seconds while Doyle took over the lead. Then a most interesting thing happened. We were sitting in Section 114, the closest section to the stage (stage right facing the stage) on Row F (6th row) and on the end (outside) of that row. So where they walked out to walk up onto the stage was literally right below us, as were the stage techs. Well the tech then came off of the stage (having already walked past several racks of guitars), left out the back for a couple of minutes, and then came back out carrying a guitar in its case. Obviously I found this somewhat odd, as this did not seem like a “rehearsed” move at all. The tech thencame uncased the guitar, plugged it in, put headphones on, and proceeded to tune the guitar. Then after a couple minutes of that, he took the guitar up onto the stage behind Eric and put it on the stand. It was a Gibson 335. In four times, it was the first time I’d ever seen him play a Gibson, and since it did seem “unrehearsed” I thought it was maybe one of the coolest things I’ve seen at a Clapton show. He then proceeded to finish out the show with it. As they walked off (right below us) I watched as the tech went out to check on the guitar, and then motion to a lady, who then went back into where the band walked into, and then came back out, and gave the guy a “thumbs up”, as if to say “He’s (Eric) has used it all he wanted to, so the tech put it back into the case, and Eric did the encore with a Strat again. Probably nothing big to most people, but being a big music, guitar, and Eric lover, I thought it was a very cool thing to witness

I attended the Oklahoma City show on March 20. I’m currently 23 years old and have had the opportunity to see 4 shows by Eric starting back in 2004 and had a chance to catch the last Crossroads Festival in Chicago. The setlist was similar to the Dallas show, except “Tempted” was not in the setlist. It was replaced with “Going Down Slow.” “Badge” was replaced with another song that I’m unfamiliar with.
The show was absolutely great. Eric never disappoints. I personally dug the Robert Johnson mini-set after the acoustic set. I especially liked it because he played different songs than during his Me and Mr. Johnson tour. Very good performances from all the band members. I really enjoyed the steel guitar/pedal steel player. He added a lot to songs like “My Father’s Eyes” and the acoustic section.

I overall really enjoyed the song selection. Getting to hear songs like “Going Down Slow”, “Tears in Heaven”, and the unplugged version of “Layla”. Great hearing “Sunshine of Your Love” back in the set.

Eric played 5 guitars on the night. He had a non-painted Martin acoustic for the opening 2 tunes. Black (or charcoal gray, I couldn’t tell) Strat for the rest of the initial electric set. Black Martin acoustic for the acoustic set. Another black Strat in open G for “Stones in My Passway”. Lastly he had a sunburst Gibson 335 for the solo of “Little Queen of Spades” and the entirety of “Cocaine”.

Overall, great show. I enjoyed seeing Eric another time. He may not be touring for much longer, so catch him while you can. Fifty Years Further on Up the Road, hopefully he can muster another 10!

I was there! Eric was awesome, what a fantastic show. I can’t name all the songs but I can name a few but not in the order that he played them. Cocaine, wonderful tonight, tears in heaven, lay down sally, gotta get over, sunshine of your love. Thats all I can remember right now. I wish the night would have lasted longer, I could watch Eric play all night long, he is fantastic!
