Eric cancelled his appearance but not the event as one his young daughter’s was sick with a childhood illness and had been in hospital overnight. Friends like Ringo Starr and Georgie Fame stepped in along with the host of regulars, like Gary Brooker.
The New Year’s Eve Dances were private sober and substance free events for people in recovery and their family and friends hosted by Eric Clapton and friends between 1992 and 2012. There was no dance in 1998. Tickets were not available to the general public. Each year, Eric and the other musicians billed themselves under a creative band name.
In 2022, Eric and his friends hosted a New Year’s Eve show in the spirit of recovery at the same location that was open to the public. It was held in memory of Gary Brooker (Procul Harum), who joined Eric on stage at many of the New Year’s Eve dances.
