Laboriel, Jr. Abe

 The son of renowned bassist Abraham Laboriel Sr, Abe is an American and was raised in Los Angeles. Abe started playing drums at young age. While in high school, he was honored by the National Foundation for the Advancement of the Arts (U.S.). Like his father, Abe is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, earning his degree in 1993.

His big career break was a tour with Steve Vai, followed by work with Seal. While with Seal, many producers heard him play and his career took off from there. In the years since, his musical resume has added work with artists as diverse as Shakira, Sting, Michele N’degeocello, Jewel, Melissa Etheridge, k.d. lang, Liz Phair, Duran Duran, Joe Sample, Sheryl Crow, Johnny Halliday, Natalie Cole and others. Since 2002, Abe has been a part of Paul McCartney’s touring band. He is part of the power-trio, The Raging Honkies.

Prior to joining Eric’s band for the summer 2008 European dates, he played on sessions Eric’s album Back Home (2005). Abe will be part of Eric’s band for the 2009 dates in Japan, New Zealand and Australia. Abe was also part of the June 2009 Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood tour.

His current kit is by DW (26’ bass, 12”, 14” 16” tom-toms, snare) with Remo heads plus Paiste and Signature cymbals.
