Film and Television Soundtracks by Eric Clapton

Film and Television Soundtracks by Eric Clapton

Eric Clapton began working on film and televison soundtracks early in his career. His first exposure was when he played on the track “Ski-ing” for George Harrison sometime between December 1967 and January 1968 for the film Wonderwall. Several years later, in March 1974, Eric recorded “Eyesight to the Blind” and “Sally Simpson” for the film version of The Who’s rock opera, Tommy. He also appeared in the movie as “The Preacher.”

In 1983, Eric Clapton began composing film and television scores as a side-line starting with the title music for The Hit, which he wrote with Roger Waters. Occasionally, he would only contribute a single song with lyrics to serve as a film’s theme. A number of his scores were for blockbuster films, including the entire Lethal Weapon series starring Danny Glover and Mel Gibson with co-composers Michael Kamen and David Sanborn. The hit film Phenomenon, which starred John Travolta gave EC and Babyface a huge hit with “Change The World”. Clapton’s mega-hit, “Tears In Heaven,” was included in the soundtrack for Rush (1991) prior to it’s groundbreaking performance on Unplugged in January 1992.

Many of these soundtracks were issued on LP, cassette or CD at the time the film came out, but are now out of print.

Additionally, some of Eric Clapton’s songs from his albums have been licensed for use in various soundtracks worlwide. They are not included here. If Eric only contributed a single song, information about it is listed in the CD column in the table, below.
