Although Eric Clapton has never recorded a full length Christmas Album, he did take part in a fundraising benefit concert for the Special Olympics on 17 December 1998 at The White House in Washington D.C. Filmed for television broadcast later that week in the U.S. on TNT, the audio has been released on CD ("A Very Special Christmas Live From Washington D.C."). Portions of the show have also been released on DVD ("A Very Special Christmas – The 20th Anniversary Music Video Collection"). Proceeds from the sale of the CD and DVD benefit the Special Olympics.
Eric Clapton performed the following Christmas Songs at the Special Olympics event:
"Christmas Blues" – John Popper with Eric Clapton
"Christmas Tears" – Eric Clapton
"Merry Christmas Baby" – Sheryl Crow with Eric Clapton
"Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" – All Artists
All tracks are available on the CD, "A Very Special Christmas Live From Washington D.C." Additionally, EC performed "Give Me One Reason" with Tracy Chapman and it is also included on the CD.
