Bronze, Dave

David Eric Bronze was born on 2 April 1952 in Billercay, Essex, England. He has been a professional musician since 1976, playing bass.

Over the years, Dave has been in a number of bands as well as an in demand freelance session player and producer. Dave worked with Robin Trower for six years, the last two as lead vocalist. He has written and produced albums for Dr. Feelgood and has composed with Trower and Mike Vernon. Bronze has also worked with Art of Noise, Duane Eddy, Jeff Beck, Phil Collins, Bo Diddley, Leo Sayer, Eric Bibb, Steve Winwood, Belinda Carlisle, Stuart Copeland, Paul Carrack, Mickey Jupp, No Stiletto Shoes and Brian Ferry. In 1991, he joined Procul Harum, which had reformed, leaving in 1993.

In the 1980s, he worked with Eric Clapton at a number of one-off and charity concerts in England. This practice continues until the present. He signed on as Eric’s full-time bassist in 1994, 1995, and 1996. He continues to tour with Eric from time to time, including the 2016 Tokyo dates.

In 2000, he was voted British Blues Connections Bass Player of the Year. In 2008, he toured with Andy Fairweather Low, another alumnus of Eric Clapton’s touring and recording bands.

Dave has said his favorite “all around” best bass is a 5 string made by Roger Sadowsky in New York.

Dave Bronze can be heard on Eric’s CD, From The Cradle. He took part in “The Concert For George” (a tribute concert in George Harrison’s memory) on 29 November 2002 of which Eric was music director. He also joined Eric on stage for the Teenage Cancer Trust benefit at the Royal Albert Hall in March 2003.
