Bobby Whitlock’s long-awaited autobiography was published in December 2010 by McFarland & Company. Reviews have been great and it’s already in its fourth printing. Co-written with Marc Roberty, it takes readers on a musical journey from Bobby’s teen-age days at Stax Records, his time with Delaney & Bonnie & Friends and Derek & The Dominos, through his session work and solo career. As Bobby is a natural-born storyteller, the book has plenty of anecdotes about Eric Clapton, the rest of the Dominos, George Harrison, The Rolling Stones, The Allman Brothers, Leon Russell and more along with an insider’s perspective about the recording of legendary albums Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs, All Things Must Pass, and Exile On Main Street. He also candidly discusses his abusive childhood, failed marriages and drug addiction, and how the star-studded lifestyle evolved into a peaceful partnership with his wife and musical partner, CoCo Carmel. The book’s foreword is by Eric Clapton.
Some of the reader reviews at online booksellers have said:
