Turn Up For Recovery Featured Artists: Cindy Cashdollar with The Restless Age

Cindy Cashdollar with The Restless Age are this week’s Featured Artists on Turn Up For Recovery’s YouTube Channel. Tune in Saturday 10 October at PDT 11:00am, EDT 2:00pm and BST 7:00pm for their very special performance at youtube.com/turnupforrecovery.

Cindy Cashdollar grew up in Woodstock, New York. The whole community watched as Cindy’s talent grew on the Dobro and then lap steel as she played with “everyone in town” during the late 1970s and ‘80s which led her to touring and performing regionally with local Woodstock luminaries Levon Helm, Rick Danko, bluegrass singer John Herald, blues legend Paul Butterfield, and folk heroes Happy & Artie Traum. In 1992 her musical quest took her to Nashville where she met and landed a job with America’s premiere Western Swing group Asleep At The Wheel, leading her to Austin. Expanding her instrumental prowess to the steel guitar, Cindy’s style added to the band’s sound as she toured and recorded with them for nine years. During her time Asleep At The Wheel, Cindy had the chance to collaborate with music legends Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Dolly Parton and Lyle Lovett and won five Grammys. Upon leaving the band to engage in a wider variety of music, she worked with Ryan Adams, Bob Dylan (on his Grammy winning Time Out of Mind album), Van Morrison, Dave Alvin, Rod Stewart, Albert Lee, Marcia Ball, Rory Block, Jorma Kaukonen, Leon Redbone, BeauSoleil, Peter Rowan, Sonny Landreth, Amy Helm and more. She was the first woman to be inducted into the Texas Steel Guitar Hall of Fame in 2011. Cindy was inducted into The Texas Music Hall of Fame in 2012 and was nominated as Instrumentalist of the Year by the Americana Music Association in 2016.

The Restless Age is a collaboration of Will Bryant, Lee Falco and Brandon Morrison. Each player brings a unique song and voice to the bandstand, as the trio spans generations and genres. The members of The Restless Age have been a premier rhythm section throughout New York’s Hudson Valley for the past half-decade. As the house band for Amy Helm’s ‘Oh to be Home Again’ at Levon Helm Studios, they performed behind Donald Fagen, John Sebastian and Graham Nash, as well as being Kate Pierson’s (The B-52’s) touring band in support of her 2015 debut album ‘Guitars & Microphones’. During that same year they toured the U.S. & Canada supporting The Waterboys and The Gipsy Kings along with fellow Hudson Valley singer-songwriter Connor Kennedy. THey rose to national attention in the U.S. backing Donald Fagen of Steely Dan, as “The Nightflyers” on his 2017 national tour.

ABOUT TURN UP FOR RECOVERY
Turn up for Recovery is a charitable movement aiming to raise awareness of abstinence-based recovery, tackle the stigma of addiction and help make treatment affordable to people struggling with alcohol and drug addiction. The idea for Turn up for Recovery (TUFR) came to founder, Melia Clapton, while walking her dog. She wanted to tackle the stigma around addiction and alcoholism and raise awareness about the power of abstinence based recovery. It’s a topic very close to her heart, having supported family members throughout their recovery. Her vision is for an inclusive community of artists, music lovers and those affected by addiction coming together to have a good time, talk about recovery and raise money for others to get the help that they need at Crossroads Centre Antigua. Melia announced the movement in September 2019 during Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival. It has been gaining momentum ever since.
