Eric Clapton is on the cover of the August issue of UNCUT. In the issue’s feature interview with Graeme Thomson, he talks about his forthcoming album, “The Breeze – An Appreciation of JJ Cale,” and his friendship with the Tulsa musician. (The 16 track album is out worldwide in late July.) In the UNCUT interview, Eric also reflects on the past, nixes another Cream reunion, talks retirement after more than 50 years on the road as touring has become “unbearable” and talks of future plans. It’s the guitarist’s most revealing interview in recent memory.
The talk of retirement echoes what he said to ROLLING STONE’S Brian Hiatt last year about his touring days winding down. For Eric, the struggle is the travel. He told Hiatt, “[S]ecurity, I never get it right. I forget to take off my belt, or I have change in my pocket. Next thing I know, ‘Can you come over here please?’ I just don’t want to do that anymore.”
The August issue of UNCUT is on newstands now. Digital editions for iPad/iPhone, Kindle and Nook are also available. Check out more from the UNCUT interview here and here.
