Genesis Publications, the world’s leading publisher of limited editions on music icons, is opening an Eric Clapton exhibition at their gallery in Guildford, Surrey next month. Running from 6 to 31 December, the show will be based on SIX-STRING STORIES, the book written with Eric Clapton, which tells the story of his career through nearly 300 guitars and amps in his collection. The exhibition will feature guitars, quotes, memorabilia and rare and unseen photos from the legendary musician’s personal archive.
Visits will be by appointment to view, with at least one open day during the month when no appointments will be necessary. The first open day will be on Saturday 7th December. Those who wish to visit the Six-String Stories Exhibit can register their interest here.
“This has been an exciting book to do with Eric Clapton,” says Nick Roylance, co-owner of Genesis Publications, “and the exhibition will draw on his guitars and the stories behind them in his own words. It’s the third book we’ve done together over the last 20 years, but it’s the first time we’ve mounted an exhibition inspired by one of them.”
Clapton signed all 2,000 copies of SIX-STRING STORIES. He has said, “One by one, these guitars were the were the chapters of my life.” The book presents a ‘family tree’, making connections between his instruments and amps, and placing them in the chronology of his fifty year career. Playlists and concert dates accompany the instruments that were used on million-sellers and at mind-blowing performances. Historical and technical information is provided for every piece of his vast collection. Each guitar story has breathtaking photos that show the beauty of each design and the wear and tear that is often caused by years on the road. The instruments are also shown in play, with performance shots of Clapton taken by over 80 of the world’s best photographers, including David Bailey, Terry O’Neill, Dominique Tarlé and Lord Snowdon.
SIX-STRING STORIES is available exclusively from Genesis Publications at www.claptonbook.com. Sales of the signed limited edition book will benefit Crossroads Centre Antigua, founded by Eric Clapton.
