Clapton Back On Stage: Rocks Oberhausen & Cologne

After being sideline for two shows with severe back pain, Eric Clapton returned to the stage in Oberhausen on 14 June and Cologne on 15 June. He may have moved a little bit more gingerly as he walked out, but his guitar work was in fine form at the Koenig-Pilsener Arena. Rutger J travelled from The Netherlands to catch EC in action Oberhausen: “Great concert, absolute highlight was Little Queen of Spades with Eric soloing fantastic. Great show from the beginning to the end. The set list was a bit different from the show in Munich on 9 June. I Shot The Sheriff was replaced by Badge and Tears In Heaven was replaced by Wonderful Tonight. Two hours and 15 minutes of fantastic music!” Axel H. echoed the comments about Little Queen of Spades, “[It] was the last performed song of the three Robert Johnson tunes. Eric did great soloing during the intro of the song. His playing sounded totally different, very percussive with short notes being played and without the usual stretching of the strings. Chris Stainton played an arousing piano solo which rewarded him great applause by the audience. Doyle and Eric played great solos, too” Andy Fairweather Low did not join in for the encores.

Where’s Eric! Reporter Heidi W checked in from last night’s concert at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne. “I Shot The Sheriff was breathtaking and EC was given a standing ovation by the audience. EC changed up the acoustic set a bit, dropping Nobody Knows You When You’re Down And Out in favor of Lay Down Sally. Andy Fairweather Low joined the band for the final encore, High Time We Went. Overall, a fantastic show.”

Eric Clapton’s 2013 Tour wraps this week with two final concerts in Nuernberg (18 June) and Prague (19 June). Andy Fairweather Low & The Low Riders are support.
