Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton, Billy Joel, Marc Anthony, and Five for Fighting are the latest additions to Paul McCartney’s star-studded benefit for victims of the September 11 terrorist strikes, The Concert for New York. They join already confirmed artists The Who, Bon Jovi, James Taylor, John Mellencamp, Macy Gray, Goo Goo Dolls, Melissa Etheridge, and India.Arie. Other newly added entertainers, who will join Jim Carrey, Jerry Seinfeld, Gwyneth Paltrow, and John Cusack, include Meg Ryan, Susan Sarandon, David Spade, Julia Stiles, and Denis Leary.
Tickets for the event will go on sale at 9 a.m. ET on Monday 8 October 2001 through Ticketmaster outlets and ticketmaster.com. A memorabilia auction and exclusive merchandise is also being planned for the show. All proceeds raised will go to the Robin Hood Relief Fund.
MTV, VH1, and other networks as well as internationally radio stations will air the Concert for New York live from Madison Square Garden in New York on 20 October at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
