As part of AXS TV’s “Guitar Gods Marathon,” the US cable channel will premiere “Eric Clapton Live In San Diego” on December 17 at 9PM Eastern. The concert was filmed live at the IPayOne Center (originally the San Diego Sports Arena and now the Valley View Casino Center).on March 15, 2007. JJ Cale – EC’s longtime musical inspiration – joined in for a five song set.
EC and his band – Derek Trucks, Doyle Bramhall II, Chris Stainton, Tim Carmon, Willie Weeks, Steve Jordan, Michelle John and Sharon White – deliver powerhouse renditions of “Little Wing,” “Motherless Children,” “Layla,” and more. The real highlight is when American music legend J.J. Cale, joins Clapton and his band. This was the only show on the tour where the guitar greats teamed up. The performance also the release of their critcally acclamied album, The Road To Escondido, by a few months. Remarkably, it was one of a handful of times the friends and collaborators played live together.
The concert was released on CD, vinyl and digital formats in September 2016. It is not available in video formats.
AXS TV’s “Guitar Gods Marathon” also includes the 1968 classic film CREAM: FAREWELL CONCERT at 4:30PM Eastern. ERIC CLAPTON: THE 1970s REVIEW follows at 6:10PM Eastern.
