The Arc Angels’ Living In A Dream CD / DVD Combo was released on 17 November 2009. Now through 4 December, Where’s Eric! is hosting a contest to celebrate its release. The 3 disc set has 14 live tracks along with three new studio tracks. From down and dirty blues to straight ahead rock and roll, the music never stops! The DVD has the full length concert, an Arc Angels documentary and more. The Arc Angels – Charlie Sexton, Doyle Bramhall II, and Chris Layton – opened for Eric Clapton during his May 2009 U.K. Tour.
The band’s 1992 debut album release, Arc Angels, on Geffen Records met with much critical acclaim. At the peak of that early success, the band fell apart in 1994 due to personal conflicts, bad chemicals and crushing touring schedules. In the years following, each band member created their own unique path. Charlie Sexton made two critically acclaimed solo albums and spent several years touring with iconic musician Bob Dylan. Chris Layton recorded three albums with the Texas soul quintet, Storyville, and backed artists like Buddy Guy, John Mayer and Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Doyle Bramhall II recorded several solo projects, toured with Roger Waters, and as a solo act supported Eric Clapton on numerous tour dates in 2001. From 2004 until March 2009, Doyle and was an integral part of Eric’s touring band and has collaborated with EC in the studio from 2000.
The Arc Angels performances featured in Living In A Dream were primarily filmed and recorded at Stubb’s Amphitheater in Austin, Texas. Lots of pick-up shots were done indoors – at the legendary Antone’s in Austin, the House of Blues in Dallas and Galveston’s Mardi Gras. Documentary and interview footage was added for context and historical interest. A whole section of performances at and interviews about Antone’s is included as a tribute to the band’s friend and mentor (and M.C. for this show), Clifford Antone. The package also includes three new songs: one each by Charlie (“Crave and Wonder”) and Doyle (“What I’m Looking For”), and a very cool cover of the Paul McCartney song, “Too Many People.”
Finally, in addition to being a document of the Arc Angels’ history to date (1990 – 2009), this box set marks the next transition. In the spring of 2009, original member Tommy Shannon, for reasons of health and happiness, decided to bow out before the next phase began. He will be missed, but the band carries on. Tommy’s departure makes this CD / DVD collection an even more meaningful document to the band and their fans. A complete track list can be found at the bottom of this article.
