Located at 1400 Market Street, the venue has been known by the following names:
Municipal Opera House (1934 – 1943)
Kiel Opera House (1943 – 2010)
Peobody Opera House (2010 – 2018)
Stifel Theatre (2018 – Present)
Note that the venue was built as part of the “Municipal Auditorium and Opera House” complex. Both venues were renamed in honor of St. Louis Mayor, Henry W. Kiel, in 1943. The Kiel Auditorium was an arena adjacent to the Kiel Opera House. The stages of both were back-to-back. The auditorium was demolished in 1992 and the Enterprise Center (originally the Kiel Center, followed by “Savvis Center” and “Scottrade Center”) stands on the site of the former auditorium.
