The Redcar Jazz Club, in the North Yorkshire seaside town of Redcar, was a regular stop for up-and-coming bands in the 1960s and early 1970s. Founded in the 1950s, it began in a local pub before moving through a succession of venues, including the Royal Hotel. On 13 November 1960, it relocated to its final and longest-running home in the Windsor Ballroom at the Coatham Hotel.
The club closed in 1973, as the small stage and limited capacity could no longer accommodate the increasingly large equipment and audiences of touring bands. The hotel itself remained open.
Interesting fact: The Coatham Hotel building was featured in the 2007 film Atonement.
