Review by Dan Loveall
First I’d like to thank my wife of 14 years for letting me travel to see Eric Clapton not only in London as it started out but then Indianapolis, Milwaukee and finally Mexico City. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being the best wife a guy could ever have. Note, she did go to the Milwaukee Concert with me.
What can I say that hasn’t already been said. I said in an earlier review that Milwaukee I thought was the best but just like a fine wine he only gets better. The setlist was the same with the exception Have you ever loved a women for Stormy Monday.
Ninth row at the Foro Sol dead center. I have never had a chance to see Clapton this close and it will be a memory that I will never forget. Its a shame everyone who loves his music as much as I do can’t get this chance at least once.
Since I am American and everyone we encountered spoke little or no English we were surprised when the 30,000 or so (I might be high on this number) sang along to Tears in Heaven. Its quite amazing to hear this many people sing along to a song. For anyone from Mexico City who might read this review you all have great voices.
My Fathers Eyes, River of Tears (I don’t know if its me or does this song just keep getting better) I Want a Little Girl (Very expressive with his hands) Have you Ever Loved a Women, Layla. I really can’t explain what this experience was like only to say that "His Head was Back, His eyes were closed and we were all taken to a magical place. Thank you Mr. Clapton.
COOLEST THING EVER AT A CONCERT — He had just finished Sunshine of your Love and started playing Somewhere Over the Rainbow when there was the biggest smile I’ve ever seen on his face. We turned around and the crowd of 30,000 were flicking there lighters to the beat of Somewhere Over the Rainbow. For those who don’t know the Foro Sol is a Baseball Stadium. This continued throughout the song, this was the coolest light show I have ever seen at a Concert and I think Eric was incredibly touched by this crowd. Somewhere Over the Rainbow ended, he walked to put the Guitar down and turned to Nathan and said "Incredible!!!!!
And thats how I need to end which will maybe be my final Clapton Concert. Thank you Mr. Clapton for an incredible year and again most of all my wife for never once thinking that seeing Eric Clapton was a waste of time. I now have memories that will last a lifetime. Take Care one and all and please let us know how Japan is.
