Eric finally made it to Houston – and boy was it worth the wait. Setlist was the same as Dallas, except we got "Why does Love got to be so sad" instead of Anyday. Lots of guitar pyrotechnics, with Derek Trucks always stealing the show. Highlights for me included, LIttle Wing, Why Does Love got to be so sad, Little Queen of Spades, Driftin (EC SOLO ACOUSTIC) and of course Cocaine. Eric used a white/beige strat for the encore numbers i believe with Robert Cray joining for Crossroads. All in all a lovely night.

Last night’s show was just what I expected…AWESOME! Since the Rodeo is in town over at Reliant Stadium this month with a concert every night, it pretty much takes the spotlight in Houston this time of year. I didn’t hear too much talk leading up to the EC show but I was happy to see a full crowd at The Toyota Center. It’s a new arena and sounded great from the 14th row. It was my 4th time to see EC since 1994. Each time has shed some new light to his style and versatility of his playing. This tour is all about the Derek and Dominoes era and was much appreciated since I was too young to appreciate those songs as a young child then. It wasn’t until after Stevie Ray Vaughan’s death and seeing Buddy Guy on TV that I paid much attention to the blues masters. I wanted to see what made these guys tick and all roads lead through Clapton. In the early 1990’s I use to go catch ARC Angels shows with Doyle Bramhall II playing guitar all around the state of Texas. I knew Doyle was special then and it’s no wonder he’s playing with EC now. Tonight’s show was my first time to see Derek Trucks and he’s no slouch himself. What a beautiful mix of styles to back EC up. EC must be taking in the moment every night now since Derek is soon to be leaving for the Allman Bro’s tour. Little Wing, Layla and Motherless Children were my highlights for the night. Only gripe was I wish they would have played one more song as the crowd was going nuts for them to come out again.

Wow! I’ve seen Clapton live 4 times now but this was by far the best. The set list was the same as Dallas except that he replaced Anyday with Why Does Love Got to be so Sad. Got to Get Better in a Little While was funky and led into a tremendous version of Little Wing but Clapton really seemed to hit his stride during the sit down set. When he got to Running on Faith the crowd was really into it. The song of the night for me was definitely Little Queen of Spades. The Layla and other D&D stuff is great, but Clapton is truly at home with the blues and Little Queen was an absolute masterpiece. Everyone got a solo with Clapton finishing it off with some masterful guitar playing. Doyle Bramhall II was outstanding but for much of the show it seemed as if Clapton was trying to show off Derek Trucks. His slide playing was truly reminiscent of Duane Allman – absolutely sensational – showing that the future’s in good hands.

What can I say? A phenomenal show!! Having seen Clapton several times before, I have to say that this was one of the best shows I have seen. Derek Trucks is amazing! The setlist was pretty much the same as it has been this year. Already looking forward to seeing him again – hurry back!!

What can you say about this man that hasn’t already been said? One of the true rock masters and legends (real legends) still performing as powerful today as yesterday came to Houston and gave it 1000%. For the Houston show, EC took us back to the Deric & The Dominoes era, performing a rare set list that covered a substantial number of songs from the Layla period. In fact, his line up of two additional guitarsists, helped recreate the work of Duane Allman, so pivotal to the sound of the Dominoes Layla album. The live performance in Houston was true to the max. Close your eyes and there they would have been..Duane, Carl Radel, Bobby Whitlock, Jim Gordon. It was a rare chance to hear these great songs again, played with the same passion and fire of three decades ago.

Derek Trucks on guitar was a monster equal, if not better, to Allman. He played with amazing maturity and style making every solo as interesting to hear as EC’s.

Doyle Bramhall Jr was also a sight to see, especially his amazing reverse (upside down) style of playing. Both were exceptional).
Willie Weeks and Steve Jordan were rock solid on bass & drums. Two legendary players who nailed down the rhythm perfectly. Background vocals by Sharon White & Michelle John were also spot on! Chris Stainton & Tim Carmon were monsters on the keyborads, rounding out the most exceptional band I’ve heard in years.

Eric himself, looked fit and trim and played & sang with all the fire any Clapton fan, like myself, could have ever hoped for. At the end of the show, Robert Cray came out and joined EC on a rousing version of Crossroads. Wow!!

It was a night of historic portion…and I don’t use that term lightly. Not often does one get to see a living legend in true form. I don’t go out to concerts much. But I’m honored and grateful to have attended this one, and thank EC & the band for one memorable night of amazing music.
