The purpose of this collection was to bring together The Yardbirds material recorded between 1963 and 1965, with some tracks from 1966. Essentially, this is the period when the band was managed by Giorgio Gomelsky. The tracks were packaged according to the original U.K. albums. The set also includes some outtakes and alternate versions.

"Shapes Of Things" was first released on LP in November 1984. The exact date is unknown. It was later released on CD. Charly re-mastered the LPs in 2004 releasing them on 180g vinyl but re-used the original catalog number (Charly Box 104).
