Derek and The Dominos Featured In Two Upcoming Johnny Cash Projects

Film footage of Derek and The Dominos (Eric Clapton, Bobby Whitlock, Jim Gordon, Carl Radle) is to be included in two new Johnny Cash projects. On 5 November 1970, the Dominos appeared on Johnny Cash’s variety show which aired on U.S. Television between 1969 and 1971. Their appearance was filmed at the Ryman Auditorium, in Nashville, Tennesee. It was with this band that Eric Clapton recorded the the landmark album, "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs."

"Johnny Cash: A Man and His Vision" will premiere on PBS affiliate WLIW-TV (Channel 21) in New York on 11 August 2007 at 7PM. Additional broadcasts will follow by other affiliates around the country. According to PBS, "Johnny Cash: A Man and His Vision" is a musical and narrative overview of one of the most innovative variety shows in television history. Cash exposed America to an eclectic array of talent by inviting viewers to "ride that train" with him across state lines, color lines, party lines and the Mason-Dixon line. Although in production for only 15 months, an astounding 58 episodes were produced. Guests were not only established artists like Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger and Ray Charles, but up-and-comers. In the PBS special, Derek & The Dominos will be seen performing the two songs that aired back in 1970, "Its Too Late" and "Matchbox" with Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash.

CMV / Columbia / Sony Legacy will release "The Best of the Johnny Cash TV Show" on 18 September 2007 in the US. Hosted by Kris Kristofferson, it will include 64 performances compiled from all 58 episodes. Included in the DVD are both songs from Derek & The Dominos appearance. The also set features new interviews with John Carter Cash, Tennessee Three bassist Marshall Grant, Hank Williams, Jr., musical arranger Bill Walker, and hairstylist Penny Lane. A single disc companion CD will also be released on that date. A track list for the CD has not yet known.
