EC On New CDs From Guy, Burke, Sanborn & More

The summer of 2008 will see a number of new CDs which feature EC in a guest-starring role on at least one track. Many of these albums also feature guest musicians who have worked with EC himself a good deal over the years – Steve Gadd, Steve Jordan and Derek Trucks just to name a few.

Here’s a quick round-up:

Here and Gone / David Sanborn (Decca) … due 12 August 2008
Sanborn’s newest disc is produced by studio legend, Phil Ramone. Guests include EC, Sam Moore, Derek Trucks, Steve Gadd, and Joss Stone.

Skin Deep / Buddy Guy (Silvertone / Zomba) … due 22 July 2008
EC joins blues legend Buddy Guy for the track "Every Time I Sing The Blues". Other guests are Robert Randolph, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi. Derek is featured on the title track, while Robert joins in for "Out In the Woods" and "That’s My Home." Susan and Derek team up with Buddy for "Too Many Tears."

Pinetop Perkins and Friends / Pinetop Perkins (Telarc) … out now
94 year old Pinetop Perkins has worked with numerous legends thoughout his career. He’s still going strong and on his latest CD, he calls in legend Eric Clapton, who at 63, is a relative kid to Pinetop. EC is featured on the track "How Long Blues / Come Back Baby". Jimmie Vaughan and B.B. King are amongst the other friends. Pinetop turns 95 on 7 July.

Like A Fire / Solomon Burke (Shout Factory) … out now
EC not only picks up his guitar for Solomon Burke, but contributes two tracks. EC penned the title track and co-wrote "Thank You" with Solomon. The CD also features Keb’ Mo’ and Ben Harper. Produced by drummer extraordinaire Steve Jordan.

Over in the compilation department, a 6CD career retrospective "Can You Follow" is due from Jack Bruce. It features 14 Cream tracks – some of them mono mixes. Of note is a 1965 live recording of "Stormy Monday" from the days when both EC and Jack were members of John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers. Also included are tracks by Eric Clapton and the Powerhouse and some tracks EC worked on for later solo Bruce projects. Due 23 June from Esoteric Recordings, it will only be available in America as an import.
