World Premiere Of “Eric Clapton: Life In 12 Bars”

Showtime Documentary Films will world premiere ERIC CLAPTON: LIFE IN 12 BARS at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival in September. It will premiere on Showtime in 2018.

The film is directed by Lili Fini Zanuck. Scooter Weintraub, Larry Yelen and Passion Pictures’ John Battsek are amongst the producers. Chris King serves as editor.

ERIC CLAPTON: LIFE IN 12 BARS is a moving and surprising film about one of the great artists of the modern era – an 18 time Grammy Award winner and the only artist ever inducted three times into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame – and is told through his own words and songs. Spanning more than half a century of legendary popular musical innovation, the film contextualizes Eric Clapton’s role in contemporary music and cultural history. This deeply intimate film reflects on Clapton’s traumatic childhood, his long and difficult struggle with drugs and alcohol and the tragic loss of his son and how he always found his inner strength and healing in music.

The team behind the film had unprecedented access to an archive of classic performance clips, on- and off-stage footage, photos, concert posters as well as the musician’s handwritten letters, drawings and diary entries. It also features extensive interviews with Clapton himself, along with his family, friends, musical collaborators, contemporaries and heroes – including late music icons B.B. King, Jimi Hendrix and George Harrison.

The Toronto Film Festival takes place September 7 to 17. The festival schedule will be announced on August 22.

Also in September, Eric Clapton will perform two nights at New York’s Madison Square Garden and four nights at The Forum in Los Angeles. The shows will be a celebration of 50 years in music and just as many years performing at the two legendary venues.
