Michelle John Competes In The Voice UK Finals This Weekend

Michelle John, a backing vocalist for EC, has made it through to the two-show Grand Finals of The Voice UK. The only female vocalist left in the competition, she’s up against Mo Adeniran, Jamie Miller, and Into the Ark Saturday night when one act will be eliminated. On Sunday evening, the remaining three acts will perform and the winner announced. At stake for the aspiring recording artists is a contract with Polydor Records.
In the semi-finals last weekend, Michelle brought down the house with her take on “Get Here,” a huge international hit for Oleta Adams in 1990. Throughout the competition, Michelle has wowed the coaches, the live audience and those watching at home with her amazing vocal range and stage presence. Her spin on “It’s A Man’s Man’s World” during the blind audition impressed coaches Sir Tom Jones, Jennifer Hudson and Gavin Rossdale, but will.i.am was the one who pushed the button and coached her throughout the competition.
The public will have a limited time to vote during Saturday night’s broadcast and they alone will decided the winner. Free voting is possible with The Voice UK app (download here); calls and texts are 35p.
Michelle grew up in Peckham and her passion for singing began in church, which she would attend with her mum. As a teen, she was a member of the prestigious London Community Gospel Choir. As professional vocalist, she has worked with Annie Lennox, Will Young, Joss Stone, Bryan Ferry, Lulu, Michael McDonald, Nick Carter, Mariah Carey, David Gilmour, Carole King and the late George Michael and Whitney Houston, just to name a few. From 2004, Michelle was an integral part of Eric Clapton’s touring and recording band. Due to her continued success on The Voicke UK, she is not part of the band for EC’s Spring 2017 concerts.
She is also a vocal coach, working with Razorlight, Girl’s Aloud, Atomic Kitten, Liberty X, Mis-Teeq, Bryan McFadden, Westlife, and Rita Ora.
Two years ago, Michelle released “Little Me,” her first EP of self-penned songs and released a Gospel single with Karl Nova entitled “Shining On.”
