Eric Clapton’s 2013 Crossroads Guitar Festival introduced many to contemporary jazz musician Kurt Rosenwinkel. One of the most innovative guitarists of his generation, his new album, Caipi, gets released February 10. Pre-orders get an advance digital track.
Ten years in the making, the record is easily his most personal record to date. Kurt plays all the instruments with the company of notable guests Amanda Brecker, Mark Turner, and Eric Clapton.
Caipi is also radically different from Kurt’s previous albums. Elements of rock and jazz co-exist happily with all the easily recognizable features of Kurt’s personal style. There is ample space for the evolving world of Brazilian music and, in particular, the Brazilian love song. To some extent this symbolizes Kurt’s natural leaning towards the creation of melodies packed with emotion.
The album is also the first release on Kurt’s own label, Heartcore Records. Click here to pre-order.
