Audio Fidelity of Camarillo, California will reissue a remastered version of Eric Clapton’s blockbuster 1985 album, Behind The Sun, on April 1 in a limited, numbered edition. This 24K+ Hybrid SACD release was mastered by Steve Hoffman at Stephen Marsh Mastering. At the manufacturing plant, the digitially encoded music is etched in real time on the disc’s surface. The result is a 24K+ Hybrid SACD with the warm sound of analog that’s playable on any SACD or CD player.

Behind The Sun was Eric Clapton’s 9th studio album. Backed by a stellar line-up of musicians and produced by Phil Collins, Lenny Waronker and Rod Templeman, the album spawned the Top 40 hits “Forever Man” and  “See What Love Can Do” that allowed him to reach a wider audience. EC didn’t abandon his old music, he just blended it more effectively and brought the flavor up to date with the more electronic sound of ’80s radio. Behind The Sun also had a heavy dose of soul with a great version of Eddie Floyd’s “Knock On Wood”. Of course, there’s a nod to EC’s blues roots with the brilliant eight minute track, “Same Old Blues” which has some of his most electric playing of the era.

The Behind The Sun sessions featured Toto guitarist Steve Lukather and drummer Jeff Porcaro, guitarist Lindsey Buckingham, legendary Stax bassist Duck Dunn and Eric’s long-time collaborators, drummer Jamie Oldaker, keyboardist Chris Stainton and vocalist Marcy Levy. Joining him the studio for the first time were bassist Nathan East and keyboardist Greg Phillinganes. With these sessions, EC’s voice had a rich new depth and the recording showcased blistering guitar solos, a high-octane R&B beat and a slick synthesizer-backed production, that was well-suited for the ’80s pop-rock market.
