Crossroads Guitar Festival – Night 2

What a night! Crossroads Guitar Festival Night 2 had The Garden rocking again for another 5+ hour concert. Kicking off right on time at 7:30pm, it was set after set of incredible performances. Derek Trucks was the “guest of the night”, turning in incredible performances with Sonny Landreth and Blake Mills, along with a rare acoustic set with his bandmates Gregg Allman and Warren Haynes (“The Needle And The Damage Done” was definitely a festival moment). Doyle Bramhall teamed up with John Mayer for an acoustic set, as did Keb Mo and Taj Mahal, who broke out the dobros, and a very rare acoustic set from blues legend Buddy Guy. But, the electric guitar was definitely king. There were extremely powerful sets from Jimmie Vaughan, Vince Gill with Keith Urban, Los Lobos (EC joined them on stage for a song), Gary Clark Jr. and Jeff Beck. But, the night belonged to the host of the festival, Eric Clapton. Eric’s headlining set kicked off with a series of guests, including the night’s biggest surprise – Keith Richards. Their songs – including “Key To The Highway” and “Sweet Little Rock ‘n Roller” – had The Garden’s audience up on their feet. Guest Andy Fairweather Low broke out “Gin House” which brought down the house thanks to Andy’s outstanding vocals and EC’s solo. Robbie Robertson then joined EC & Company for a few numbers. His set included a touching “I Shall Be Released”. Then, it was all Eric for the rest of the night: “Got To Get Better In A LIttle While,” “Crossroads,” “Little Queen Of Spades” and “Sunshine Of Your Love.” EC and his band wrapped up the festival with “High Time We Went” joined by many of the guitarists who performed over the two nights.

The WE! Team (and the entire audience!) couldn’t help noticing that EC was having an absolute blast both nights. As has become Crossroads tradition, EC said from the time the festival was announced that it would definitely be the last one. And, as usual, EC changed his mind telling the Saturday Night audience “see you in three years!” with a huge ear to ear grin.

The Where’s Eric! Team will be presenting a much more detailed recap along with a photo gallery soon, so keep your eye out for that. Apologies for the delay in reporting – the WE! Team had to run to the airports early Sunday to head home to their various destinations worldwide. But, more importantly, we need to hear from YOU! We want fans to participate and tell the story of CGF 2013 with their words, photos and videos.

Help us build an accurate gig archive with set lists and all musicians who performed on stage, the guitars / amps used by them as well as a photo gallery for both nights of CGF2013.
