Marcella Detroit: New Album “The Vehicle” To Be Launched At LA Gig

Musician, singer, songwriter and former Eric Clapton band member, Marcella Detroit (aka Marcy Levy) will be performing tracks from her forthcoming album, “The Vehicle,” along with some old favorites on September 19 at Largo in Los Angeles. Joining her on stage will be legendary rhythm section James Gadson (Bill Withers, Herbie Hancock, BB King) on drums and Reggie McBride (Stevie Wonder, Parliament Funkedelics) on bass, along with Luke Miller on keyboards and Sam Meek on guitar. Tickets are available from the venue’s website.

Hailing from Detroit, Marcy got her first big break signing with Bob Seger. Next, it was recording and touring with Leon Russell. Marcy then worked with Eric Clapton recording, writing and touring from 1974 to 1978 and again in 1985. She cowrote “Lay Down Sally” (with EC and George Terry), “The Core” and “Innocent Times” (with EC) and “Hungry” (with Dick Sims). Throughout her career, she has also worked with a wide variety of musicians across genres, like Leo Sayer, Bette Middler, Aretha Franklin, Al Jarreau, Johnny Gill, The Charlie Daniels Band and more. Upon joining Shakespear’s Sister in the late 80s, Marcy changed her name to Marcella Detroit.

Her solo albums are Marcella (1982), Jewel (1994), Feeler (1996), Dancing Madly Sideways (1999) and The Upside of Being Down (2005). “The Vehicle” is out next month.
