In an unannounced guest appearance on February 11, Eric Clapton walked out during the 20th edition of the Transatlantic Sessions at Royal Festival Hall. The event draws on the kindred folk traditions of Scotland, Ireland and America.

Eric joined the musicians, which included American dobro-master and lap steel guitar player Jerry Douglas, for an instrumental version of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” and the folk song, “Sam Hall,” on which he sang vocals.

In brief remarks between the two numbers, Eric said he has enjoyed attending the event many times and joked he “begged” Jerry for the opportunity to join in.  He then dedicated “Sam Hall” to his friend and legendary guitarist, Jeff Beck, who passed away on January 10.

Jerry Douglas has supported the work of Crossroads Centre Antigua by performing at Eric’s Crossroads Guitar Festivals in 2004, 2007 and 2019 and the efforts of Turn Up For Recovery.
