[UPDATE 9 AUGUST: THE MATCH HAS BEEN CANCELLED BY THE BUNBURY CRICKET CLUB. IT WILL NOT TAKE PLACE ON 3 SEPTEMBER AS PREVIOUSLY ANNOUNCED]. On 3 September, Eric Clapton will field a team of friends against The Bunbury XI in a celebrity charity cricket match to celebrate The Bunbury’s 25th Anniversary at Lord’s Cricket Ground. The match aims to raise significant funds for the English Schools Cricket Association, Crossroads Centre Antigua and Shine. A provisional teams list includes Eric Clapton, Bill Wyman, Phil Tufnell, Darren Gough, James & Oliver Phelps (The Weasley Twins), Mark Foster, Ian Wright, Mark Austin, Rudolph Walker, Emma Samms, Lloyd Honeyghan and Members of the England Cricket Team.
Tickets for the 3 September match must be purchased in advance by mail or fax order. Dress is smart casual. The day will begin with a Pimms Reception at noon, a three course lunch at 12:30, with the match following at 2PM. Afternoon Tea and an auction will take place at 4:15PM. The day will conclude with prize giving at 6:30PM.
Eric Clapton was introduced to the sport by Dr. David English, former president of RSO Records and founder of the Bunbury charity cricket team in the 1980s. He joined the first Bunbury side in a match played at Ripley Court School in 1986. Since then, the every-changing celebrity team has raised more than 10 million pounds for various charities. In the ensuing years, Eric fielded his own EC XI in a number of celebrity charity cricket matches against The Bunbury Side.
