Sancious, David

 David Sancious was born on 30 November 1953 in Asbury Park, New Jersey. His family moved to Belmar, New Jersey when he was 5. A keyboardist / guitarist / composer he is highly versatile musician.

David’s mother began teaching him piano shortly after the family moved to Belmar. He picked up the guitar at 9 due to his interest in folk music. After his older brother played him a record by Jimi Hendrix, David’s interest turned to the electric guitar.

David began working professionally at age 16. In 1970 he joined up with fellow New Jerseyan, Bruce Springsteen. As the original keyboardist in Springsteen’s E Street Band, David can be heard on the albums Greetings From Asbury Park and The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle as well as Born To Run.

In 1975, he left the E Street Band, signing with Epic records as a solo artist. He released several albums of progressive rock and instrumental jazz fusion.

David also became a much in demand session man, playing on numerous recordings and tours. Over the years, he worked with Carlos Santana, Peter Gabriel, Seal, Natalie Merchant, Yousou Ndour, Stacy Lattisaw, Jack Bruce (1979’s I’ve Always Wanted To Do This and an appearance on England’s Old Grey Whistle Test), Bryan Ferry, Patti Labelle, Cozy Powell, Billy Squire and numerous others. He has also worked extensively with Sting and Zucchero Fornaciari (numerous albums between 1987 – 1996).

David was reuntied with Springsteen for the 1992 album, Human Touch.

David joined Eric Clapton’s touring band in 2001 for the Reptile World Tour, playing both keyboards and guitar. Most likely, the men met previously as they both appeared on Sting’s album, Ten Summoner’s Tales and both Eric and Zucchero Fornaciari were managed by Roger Forrester.
