Ronnie Scott’s is known to music lovers the world over as one of London’s preeminent music venues. 2009 marks the club’s 50th Anniversary Year, with the actual anniversary day being 30 October. The club’s 50th Anniversary Month schedule has a few of Eric Clapton’s musical collaborators headlining shows. On 1 October, Jools Holland and His Rhythm and Blues Orchestra kick things off. On 25 October, Eric’s Cream bandmate, Jack Bruce is a special guest with Ronnie Scott’s Blues Experience. The following evening, 26 October, Eric’s long-time drummer, Steve Gadd gigs at Ronnie Scott’s with his jazz ensemble, Steve Gadd and Friends. Steve’s "Friends" are Ronnie Cuber (baritone saxophone) – who has also worked with EC, Joey DeFrancesco (hammond organ) and Paul Bollenbeck (guitar).
Ronnie Scott’s is located at 47 Frith Street, W1. More info at ronniescotts.co.uk.
And for those of you wondering, "Where’s Eric?", Eric Clapton’s next concert performance takes place in October as well. He’ll be part of the two-night Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary Concerts. EC performs the second night (30 October 2009) at New York’s Madison Square Garden. Also on the bill that night are Aretha Franklin, Metallic and U2. And don’t forget – fans in America can catch EC on TV next week – 17 September – on the Jay Leno Show (NBC, 10PM).
