Out Now: Marcella Detroit’s New Holiday EP

Musician, singer, songwriter and former Eric Clapton band member, Marcella Detroit (aka Marcy Levy) has released Happy Holiday!, a 4-track EP on iTunes. It has two original compositions ("Happy Holiday!" and "You Better Be Good"), the traditional Chanukah song, "Rock Of Ages," plus an a cappella version of "O Holy Night", which Marcella calls "one of the most beautiful songs ever written, simply divine." All songs were recorded and produced in her home studio. The title track also has an accompanying video (check it out at the end of this article).

Hailing from Detroit, Marcy got her first big break signing with Bob Seger. Next, it was recording and touring with Leon Russell. Marcy then worked with Eric Clapton recording, writing and touring from 1974 to 1978 and again in 1985. She cowrote "Lay Down Sally" (with EC and George Terry), "The Core" and "Innocent Times" (with EC) and "Hungry" (with the late great Dick Sims). Throughout her career, she has also worked with a wide variety of musicians across genres, like Leo Sayer, Bette Middler, Aretha Franklin, Al Jarreau, Johnny Gill, The Charlie Daniels Band and more.

In the late 80s, Marcy changed her name to Marcella Detroit when she joined Shakespear’s Sister ("You’re History" and "Stay"). Her solo albums are Marcella (1982), Jewel (1994), Feeler (1996), Dancing Madly Sideways (1999) and The Upside of Being Down (2005) where she returned to her blues roots. In addition to the holiday EP, a new album will be out in the near future.
